HOWTO: Professional-Looking Scrolled Credits in Cinelerra
Introduction
Titles support in the Cinelerra video editor is very limited. In
particular, text styles can only be applied to all the text as a whole,
since the Cinelerra title plugin is not based on a WYSIWYG editing pane.
This page documents a straightforward procedure for getting much more
professional-looking scrolling credits to appear in Cinelerra-edited
videos.
About Scrolling Credits
Professional credits often appear in several sections. With each
section, there is a centred boldface title, such as 'Cast (in order of
appearance). Below the title is one or more individual credits in 2
columns, with the role right-justified in the left column, and the
person or agency left-justified in the right column, for example:
create new video track, set the track width to the width of the
gimp
image, arm this track and disarm all others
import the png file and place it on the new video track
stretch it along the timeline to required length
go to frame 1 and turn on auto keyframes
camera-pan in y direction until credits are just below the frame,
make sure x camera value is 0
go to frame n-1
camera-pan in y direction until credits are just above the
frame, make sure x camera value is 0
turn off auto keyframes
render out the video
This 3-step procedure allows you to create totally professional-looking
scrolling credits, formatted exactly as you want, with the right
mixture of fonts, sizes, styles, alignments etc. It also allows you to
included graphical elements like logos.
